Make Your E-Commerce Website Design Responsive

The era of computers and desktops is long gone now. People nowadays are much more comfortable browsing through the web on their phones and tablets. This means your website needs to be optimized accordingly. There is a high probability of losing your customers if your website is not responsive or mobile-friendly. That being mentioned, it is always a smart idea to make your website responsive in its design.

In this post, we are going to discuss 10 major and useful tips for designing a responsive e-commerce website for your e-commerce business.

  • Change your “desktop first” approach: To easily optimize our website according to the devices, you need to change your approach to designing the website in the first place. Change it from designing for “desktop first” to“mobile-first”. Once your website becomes easy to read on mobile, it will be the same for every other device out there.
  • Plan out the content properly: Content planning is one of the prerequisites of a responsive website design. It includes the readability and accessibility of content, no matter what device it is being viewed on. This can be done by mapping out the order in which the content should appear on the website with the smallest width possible.
  • Design the layout for your website: It is highly recommended that a layout of your website design should be drawn first before coding. While doing this for mobiles, make sure that the icons are large enough to be clicked upon by the fingertips in one go. Also, keep the website design as simple as possible and make it more functional.

Reduce the navigation menu into an icon:

While building a responsive website, the most important thing to keep in mind is to not have a navigation menu bar because it can be trouble for smaller screens. Instead, combine all the menus of the navigation bar into one icon and as mentioned in the above point, make that icon large enough for fingertips.

  • Make use of required software programs: Building a responsive website design is a complicated task and hence, you should ensure that it functions exceptionally well on each device. Use different software programs for different devices.
  • Have a device-agnostic approach: With this approach, you can easily set the breakpoints according to the content of the site and accept the full potential of a responsive design.
  • Images should be optimized: Create optimized images for each layout to reduce bandwidth and eliminate scaling issues. This helps in keeping intact the quality of the responsive image. Also, avoid using PNG image files because they cause bloating issues
  • The website loading time should be minimized: One of the main features of a responsive website is that the loading time of the website should be minimized to the least. Your website should take, at the max, 4 seconds to load, or else, according to statistics; you will start losing your potential customers.
  • Make sure the text is readable: Having a responsive website means that the reader should be able to read the content without zooming in or squinting. The text size recommended is 16 px, 1 em, or 12 pt.
  • Design according to screen orientation: Your responsive website should be able to adapt itself according to the orientation of the device, be it portrait mode or be it landscape mode. Make sure that the images are not stretched in their orientation.
